Fall Clothing Styles in West Hartford Center and East Longmeadow…

Fall weather in New England is almost impossible to keep up with; cold cloudy mornings, warm sunshine filled lunch breaks and temperatures dropping to 40 degrees at exactly 6 o’clock. Every morning you stand in front of your closet thinking “what am I going to wear in this indecisive weather?” Well, we have your answer… layers, layers, and more layers!

The easiest way to achieve a perfect outfit without looking like you are wearing your entire closet is to start with the essentials. A good pair of skinny jeans is necessary. We love the DL1961 Emmas in Skye, they’re a nice medium wash, comfy fit everyday kind of jean. Now tuck those skinnies into a pair of lace up booties. We can’t live without our Scala Bootie… In both Black and Brown, of course! Now for the tops, with so many options and an erratic weather pattern, this can get tricky…West Hartford Womens Clothing and Dresses, dl1961 emma jeans in skye, scala booties, bella white tee.

Invest in a white and black basic tank like our SugarLips Ribbed Seamless Tank, this can be layered under anything that is sheer, open back or when you just need that seamless look. (show the jeans, both colors of booties and a tank and a s/s tee)

A basic white or black long sleeve or short sleeve tee can also take you far. It is a timeless piece that can be worn every season. Layer yours with a black fitted jacket/blazer or any of our chunky knit cardigans add a fun printed infinity scarf or a statement necklace to finish off your look. Just because the weather is getting cooler doesn’t mean you have to hide your legs until spring. Pair that adorable faux leather skater skirt with something heavier on top like a V neck sweater and a chunky scarf. Still too chilly? Add some sheer tights and booties. Fall Layering Tricks West Hartford

We’re also loving the midi length skirts this season. The hem should hit right below the knee, about mid-calf to get that classic, but sexy Sophia Loren 1940s style. Pair your skirt with a cropped or thin lightweight sweater and with a denim jacket to dress it down. Fall Layering Tricks West Hartford

Another fall wardrobe essential is the sweater dress. Pick something in a neutral tone that will serve as your outfit’s “backdrop”. The Kensie Knit Sweater Dress in Taupe or Grey is an ideal choice. Pair it with a denim jacket or fur vest and if you’re not comfortable showing your legs add a pair of tights and booties. The Kensie Knit can also be worn as a tunic top with a pair of leggings and riding boots. This dress is so versatile we can go on and on … Fall Layering Tricks West Hartford

The weather may be crazy this season, but what a great excuse to shop for more layers to keep you prepared for whatever Mother Nature brings!

Happy Birthday Libra!

All of your fabulous qualities and characteristics deserve to be noticed and what better way to show them than through your style. The seventh sign of the zodiac; you are a lover of beauty, peace, and harmony.

The scales are your symbol, which fits your desire to always remain balanced. Libras are the diplomat of the zodiac. They are able to put themselves in others shoes and see things through another person’s point of view.

Libras like to be around other people, they are all about partnerships and groups. They have captivating charm, elegant taste and they are easy to like due to their easygoing nature. Libras express their intelligence through creativity, most are involved in some sort of artistic or creative pursuit. Libras love variety and different situations. However, when trying to make a decision, your indecisiveness can get the best of you (“do I buy the bag; do I not buy the bag”…you should buy the bag!)

Your sincerity, tact and strong sense of fairness earns you respect in the work place. A tailored dress will illustrate your refined side, topped with a fun colored blazer to show off your artistic side. Libra’s are very aware of their looks and take time to take care of their body and appearance. You are also known to be in heels at all times! We know we can count on you to help us find the perfect pair of pumps that can be worn all day.

As a Libra you have a strong fashion sense with a graceful look. You gravitate toward light, sheer linens, silks, and cashmere fabrics. This fall, layers are always the answer, steer away from outfits that are too chunky and take away from your romantic appeal.

Your charming ways flood out when it comes to love. Soft, airy colors look best on you, so take advantage of this season’s trend of pastels. Your next date calls for a blush or lavender draped blouse, dark skinny jeans, nude pumps and delicate chandler earrings. Oh, and don’t forget your stone colored GiGi New York Uber Clutch!

For you, life is all about balance. On your days off, casual is still elegant and tasteful. Your boyfriend jeans are always paired with what else, but a strappy pair of heels. A lightweight floral top will balance your look to keep you feminine and well put together.

Libra, we love your style!

Maxi Dress Mania

Maxi dresses are the go-to dress length for parties, weekends and work and are the original spring-ready trend. With the new season prints – from floral to stripes – and pretty pleated skirts arriving on the rails, there’s never been a better time to show off your fashion and update your maxi dress collection. See our favorite styles…

*** The Waterfall Floral Print Maxi will bring a fresh pop of color to your post-winter wardrobe, with its shades of yellows and greys, giving you that high summer feeling way ahead of time.

*** Update your maxi dress collection with our Steffi Daisy Crochet Top Maxi Dress in Ivory/Navy or Taupe. The sexy open back detail and crinkle skirt is perfect to transform from day to night.

*** Simple to layer and easy to wear the Don’t Smock Me Maxi is a Spring/Summer 2014 style staple.

*** The Sailor Stripe Maxi and the On The Line Maxi Dresses make it easy for you to experiment with the cut out trend. That’s one way to add sex appeal to your demure daytime sun dress.

Forget it being just a one-off trend: Maxi dresses are not going away any time soon. The nearly-to-the-floor style has become a wardrobe staple, as both fashion-ista like you and high-end designers continue to embrace the easy-going look.

So what are the updated versions for this Spring/Summer 2014… this year we are seeing styles with full, flowy skirts and peekaboo elements are also trendy.  Cut-outs at the waist, neckline and back are not only sexy, but can accentuate your best features and give the illusion of a longer, leaner silhouette. A deep V or halter neckline will help elongate you visually. Another trick is an empire waist…. it gives the illusion of longer legs. Also consider patterns, they can camouflage lumps and bumps. Don’t think you can’t wear a Maxi Dress because you’re short, just try one on…. TRUST ME!

Stylishly Transition…

During these last few winter months all we can think about is spring transition; when will it be here and Did Punxsutawney Phil see his shadow or not? Well unfortunately for us on February 2, Groundhog Day, he did see his shadow. And literally the next day the East Coast got hammered with a major unexpected snow storm, coincidence or not, who knows…

But, what we DO know is how to get you through the season stylishly! This is the time of year when your personal style shines the brightest and works the hardest. And that, readers, is the time of transition. Here are the key pieces you need now that will transition well into your spring and even summer wardrobe!

We can’t stress enough the importance of layers…and each layering piece is key to assembling the perfect outfit. So, what are the ingredients needed and how do you mix them up to create the perfect outfit?… Lucky for you we’ve got you covered! Pun intended.

Ready or Knit Sweater1)      A lightweight sweater in neutral colors such as white, cream, ivory, taupe is a must have transition piece. Blakely Top

The light colored top will help take the edge off any dark bottoms and will also pair well with that summer frock or colored skinnies you already bought and are dying to wear.

This super soft lightweight white sweater can be worn so many different ways you’re going to wonder how you ever lived without it! Same with this chunky knit neutral sweater with zipper back detail. Be adventurous and play with color…

2)      A long sleeved dress…

A long sleeve neutral crochet dress can easily be added to your daytime look or casual evening out. The options for this are endless. Throw over a denim jacket or vest and a pair of brown boots, a moto style jacket for some edge, or you can even wear it as a tunic with leggings.

Tights, flat over the knee boots, denim jacket, scarf.tahoe topM4

Tights, chunky booties, fur vest.

Layer a bright sweater over, tights, a fun floppy hat and boots.

An army green contrast sleeve anorak for a feminine/grunge vibe.

This printed long sleeve dress looks just like a printed long sleeve dress on the hanger, but it is SO much more! Check out the versatility-ness of it.

Worn with leggings as a tunic, topped with a black blazer.

Leggings, cardigan or sweater , scarf.

Worn as a dress with knee high boots, denim vest or moto style jacket.

3)      A fun, funky lightweight jacket… This can be paired pretty much over anything. At least one of the examples below should make it into your regular rotaion.

Now all you need is a good scarf and some sunnies! With these transitional wardrobe essentials, you can create a new outfit every day!

The Midi, The Monochromatic, and Making it Your Own – in About Five Minutes or Less

-Leah Forrant

Anyone who knows me is well aware I’m always three to five minutes late, enter my destination typically like a tornado while apologizing, and have a tendency to stay in bed just a tad bit too long in the AM making me a complete spaz mess while trying to put my outfit together. Truthfully this applies to my afternoon outfit, and let’s be honest my PM outfit as well. Ok, basically ALL outfits, all occasions.

Little secret- I wouldn’t have it any other way.  Here’s a few reasons why.

Too much time means TOO MUCH THINKING.  I rarely change more than once or twice.  Your first choice is really usually your best. Call it that great female intuition we have, but I’m pretty convinced it’s true.  Think about it ladies; how many times have you changed 15 times only to go back to that first outfit? I rest my case.

I define my style as a bit polished, a bit messy; hence I’ve dubbed myself “The Polished Frenzy.”  I never want to look too put together, and I don’t really ever want to “Match”… that’s just not me. (Except for mono-chromatic which I’m loving). With that all being said, I do want what I put on to WORK, and here are a few little tidbits on how I think I make it my own, hopefully looking fabulous while doing so. (Fingers crossed!)

So with all that being said, this particular blog is about trends I’m loving right now as well as ways to get yourself out that door in five or less looking like you’ve spent a good hour working on your hotness.

First tip that I’ve stuck by for years. “Find your favorites.” What’s your signature scent? That ring you never take off, those little initial stud earrings from a special friend, the simple gold necklace you’ve never seen on anyone else, and that classic watch that will never go out of style. That’s what I mean by “find your favorites.” The pieces that you have made YOUR own. You wear them every day and they are essentially you. They will tie in with anything you wear perfectly because they are classic, understated and a true extension of yourself.

Favorite piecesI’ve worn a rare little gold necklace from Ginette_NY every day for so long now when I didn’t have it on at work the other day one of my co-workers thought I must have lost it. Remember Carrie and her “Carrie Necklace?” Remember when she wore a simple strand of pearls for a whole season?  It somehow always worked and she always looked damn good.  It was “hers,” and I loved that.

Once you have your accessories that are uniquely you, you are half way there. I mean it. Take them off at night, put them on a beautiful vintage little plate from your favorite flea market, throw them on again in the am, and lightly spritz your neck with a fragrance you can call your own. You are no longer “naked!”

Now the fun part. What the hell are you going to wear?

The Midi skirt is FABULOUS right now. There are so many ways to wear it the list is endless. Wear it with a shrunken tight buttoned up denimaztec print midi skirt jacket, an over-sized flowy loose wool coat with a silk tank tucked in underneath (very Kim K. but let’s be honest she IS killing it lately), a bandeau with a peak of skin and a sexy long loose cardi. And in my opinion, always the classic pointed toe pump. The midi cuts at a place on your leg where you NEED to wear a shoe to continue to elongate. Unless you’re Giselle you do not want to wear booties or anything with an ankle strap which will create the illusion of stumpiness.  No one wants that.

5 min or less2 (2)

I’ve talked about winter white before which ties into my love of anything mono-chromatic (where I break my rule about matching). I’m really loving a cream top, white denim, and nude heels. You just simply can’t go wrong with something this classic. Not to mention it works with any hair color or skin tone. This particular Shop Luxy sweater I’m wearing is the perfect winter to spring transitional piece.

When the weather gets warmer for you east coast ladies, I mean seriously, I FEEL FOR YOU, don’t be afraid to throw on a pair of lilac shorts with a darker purple top. Mono-chromatic can be shades of the same color, it doesn’t have to match perfectly.  Just make sure not to over-accessorize. The colors ARE the accessory.

One last love that will forever and always be a closet staple of mine is the classic and sexy long sleeve sheer silk top. This top is just easy. Get one in every jewel tone color of the damn rainbow. You will thank me. Dressed up or down, the options are endless and you can have fun with a top like this for so many reasons. 5 min or less (2)

One, it’s loose, so a pair of tight jeans and sky-high heels will take you from day to night effortlessly. You’re leaving a bit to the imagination up top but are rocking the perfect pair of skinnies down below.

Try dressing it down with a pair of ripped up boyfriend jeans and then add some flair with a pair of insane flats. Try a simple black leather jacket over it with classic black pumps.

All of these looks are sexy, eye-catching, and most importantly easy- remember the five minutes rule! We’re all busy ladies. Let’s look good without having to work harder than we already do!

office casual

Workday Dressing- Keeping it fun and appropriate for the office.

For all my ladies with an office job, like myself, sometimes it’s tough to keep it fresh, fun, trendy and a little bit sexy while still remaining work appropriate. And let’s be honest, if you’re anything like me you have about four minutes in the morning to figure out an outfit, throw a little effort into the hair, slap on the makeup essentials; touch of bronzer, mascara for daysss, tinted lip gloss, and then full blown sprint out the door to make that morning office meeting. (Is that just me?)

Here’s my take on dressing for the office. Dress like you OWN the workday. It doesn’t matter if you’re in an office with five people or fifty people, dressing for work should be fun and you should feel GOOD about what you are wearing. I think you all can agree with me, when you look good, you just feel different. Daytime dressing should be no different than going out for the night. So have some fun, mix it up and enjoy getting dressed in the AM!

I know every office has different dress codes so sometimes it can be tough.  I’ve had jobs before where I’ve had to wear a “suit” every day. Yes, I 100 percent pushed the limit and got looked at side ways several times but I subscribe to this theory- if you are wearing pants and a blazer of some sort, ahh, that’s a suit. Doesn’t have to match.

So for all you suit wearing ladies, here are a few ideas on how to have fun with your “uniform” if you will. A black blazer with Leather or faux leather sleeves is super eye catching and instantly glams up the outfit. Plus it’s very day to night, so you can hop right over to happy hour and be dressed for the occasion. My favorite “look” with a black blazer is a simple white silk tank, v-neck t-shirt, or classic button down underneath. Its sexy, classy and the lines are clean.  Here’s where it get’s fun- the pants! Throw on a pair of comfy yet sexy pajama style drawstring pants, roll um up, and finish it off with a classic pointed toe pump in a great color.  Don’t ever be afraid of color. If your outfit is primarily black and white, you can wear a shoe in a bold blue, purple, red… I mean the possibilities are endless.

For those of you ladies that need to be put together but not as “corporate”, I love a good super skinny colored denim legging style jean with a blazer.  Deep blue colored denim, classic black pumps, and then gray on gray on top is sexy, simple, comfy and still classy enough for the office.  Don’t be afraid to get a little different with your accessories. If you wear a few gold necklaces, throw a vintage set of pearls on with them.  Wear a wide black belt to tie the look together.  Have fun!

They’ll remember you in the daytime too, leave your mark.

Lovely in Lux: How to take your outfit from day to date on Valentine’s Day.

What’s not to love about Valentine’s Day?  You get to go shopping for a new outfit, get dolled up, go to a romantic dinner & yeah you know the rest! One things for sure is you want to WOW your date but not over do it.  Whether its your first night out with your crush (AHH!) or a romantic dinner with someone you’ve been dating for a while, you’ll still want to feel sexy without making it obvious you’ve spent hours in the mirror. Here are a few Valentine’s Day outfit options from casual to dressy and a few in betweens…

Girly & Glamorous: Choose a fit and flare dress that has some sort of girly detail like lace.  Pair with tights, flats or booties, a fitted blazer and simple accessories for a casual daytime work look. Transform your look to evening… switch out your flats for a sexy leg lengthening pump or a classic pointed stiletto heel and swap out the blazer for an edgy moto-style jacket. Throw your hair in a high bun to show off your feminine neckline, smoke out your eyes, and go for a pink lip. Grab a clutch to match and don’t forget to pack your candy yum-yum lipstick & Voila… You’re Valentine’s Day date ready!

Valentine's Day OutfitsValentine's Day OutfitsValentine's Day Outfits

Fun to Flirty: Currently loving leather skirts…There’s a few different shapes out there, so find one that flatters you best. Right now we’re rocking the A-line shape and of course, in BLACK! Aside from the obvious chic factor, it can easily be transitioned from desk to date with these simple guidelines. For daytime, pair with a sweater that hit just at the waist or tuck in a chambray top for a more primped and polished look.  Finish with a statement necklace, tights, booties, and a blazer for the workplace.  For evening strip your top and tuck in a sexy beaded chiffon tank. Ditch those booties, and pair with pumps. Finish the ensemble with a red chain strap clutch, dark brown smoke eye & red lips, voluminous waves and your va-va voom ready!

Valentine's Day OutfitsValentine's Day Outfits Valentine's Day Outfits

Sexy & Timeless: Fashion trends come & go, however the skinny jean is a timeless, yet sexy staple that is still turning heads.  If you are short and petite like me, it may take years to discover the perfect fitting, show off your curves skinny jean.  And let me tell you, when you do, STOCK UP on them!  I recently discovered the Emma m talking dark wash skinny. The fabric is fant-abulous, form fitting and sooo comfy, I can literally sleep in them! Every woman should own a pair or two.

Valentine's Day OutfitsValentine's Day OutfitsValentine's Day Outfits

For a daytime office look I would choose a classy white blouse that is loose fitted because the jeans themselves are sexy and tight- you still want to remain work appropriate. Pair your ensemble with pointed stilettos or flats depending on your mood.  Add a fun bib necklace for a fresh not so officey vibe & keep it simple with a form fitted black blazer.  For your Valentine’s Day evening look ditch the blouse & pair with a red front draped tank, add a fun blazer or fitted vegan leather jacket and some snakeskin pumps. Opt for simple accessories-black envelope clutch.  Hair and makeup should scream SEXy.  HaHa I’m talking BIG loose curls, and irresistible brown smokey eyes with a luscious nude pout. BOOM you’re screaming SEX-KITTEN.

Winter Chic: How to bundle up during these last few months while looking fab!

Winter ChicLiving in sunny SoCal there really is no “winter”… honestly when it dips below 65 here people literally pull out parkas and gloves which is just ridiculous.

But I will say, as much as we don’t like the bitter cold us Cali girls still DO want to look “ winter chic ” too! We secretly crave the seasons we just don’t tell anyone. We tell everyone 75 and sunny is the BEST. THING. EVER.

My winter chic motto is this: I love layers. Layers are sexy. Layers can be worn a million ways. Layers can be taken off in fun ways. Ask any man and nine out of ten will tell you they like a little left to the imagination. A dress basically showing all your business is actually not hot to most. I read that somewhere so it must be true.  And this is why winter is so great for layering it up in a sexy way!

I also do NOT subscribe to the theory everything you wear has to be expensive for it to look good. That’s just crazy. Mixing high and low end pieces is fun!

Here are my must have winter chic basics. If you have these in your closet you are golden and can literally create a bajillion outfits.

AllSaintMaceHoodedBikerjacket9A really bad-ass cropped leather jacket. Black. And I can’t stress this enough; it has to fit. And if I didn’t already say it, I mean it, BLACK. If it’s oversized it really isn’t doing you any justice, trust me on this. Best type to get is one that hits just below your belly button. If it hits at your waist you’ve already gone wrong. It creates a boxy look and accentuates your hips in a bad way, not a “hey look at my fantastic cropped jacket, and look at how amazingly proportionate my hips look” kind of way.

A pea coat. But keep in mind we are treading a fine line when it comes to the pea coat. Gone are the days of the cinched at the waist pea coat. A slightly winter chicoversized, hitting at mid-thigh pea coat in black, neutral or plaid is where it’s at. No sash at the waist. It’s meant to be worn open or buttoned with a naturally oversized look. Not only is this pea coat just the right size but seriously ladies, ROCK that winter white. You do not have to subscribe to the “only white in the summer” theory. Winter white is super-hot and also super eye catching.

An “oh my god I want to steal those from you and never give them back” fantastic pair of  leggings. I actually prefer vegan or leather paneling in the front with stretch material in the back. Typically 100% leather leggings lose their shape and you have saggy ass by the end of the day. Who wants that?

winter chic

Have fun with your leggings. Nothing is more chic than a great pair, white shirt, oversized blazer (of any color) and nude booties or pumps. Instant sexy, instant classic.  And absolutely a day to night transitional outfit.

Scarves. I get excited even talking about scarves because I have 42. It’s a disease. But a scarf can change an entire outfit. A scarf wrapped around the neck with a basic white t-shirt, leather jacket, and great pair of jeans with bright colored pointed toe pumps is a simple yet fantastic outfit. (I’m not a huge fan of matching the scarf with the shoes, but go for it if it’s your thing!) This outfit will take you out on the town, to the movies, or to a concert. It’s my go to.  Now we’re getting into subcategories but these are the scarves I think every girl should have-

winter chic  winter chic winter chic

  • Classic black
  • Classic white
  • At least one solid BRIGHT color. Cobalt blue is killing it right now, or a bright red.
  • The classic Burberry look or a great large plaid print. Don’t break the bank, it doesn’t have to be Burberry but a soft Burberry like scarf is perfect for several reasons. One is I hate matching. Throw on a vintage rock and roll t-shirt with a plaid scarf and it works! And then throw your leather jacket on over that!

Denim. Ahhhhh denim.  I’ll keep this one short(ish) but could literally make it an all-day topic. Every fashionista should invest in a pair of really amazing skinny jeans. Skinny jeans that are literally so skinny at the ankle there is barely any room to get your finger in between the fabric and your skin. If your skinny jeans look great until you get to the ankle where they are all bunchy or loose- they aren’t skinny jeans!  Plus it’s still cold. You want them to be as tight as possible at the ankle so you can wear mid-calf or low booties over them. Warm and sexy, and will create the illusion of super long legs.

Boyfriend Jeans. So many options! Boyfriend jeans loosely rolled with a pair or booties or a heel for an evening look, or dressed down with your favorite pair of converse. Ya just gotta get a pair. Not only are they comfortable but can be worn 20 different ways.

And lastly, a great pair of trouser cut bell bottoms. I stress trouser cut because anything else can look dated and slightly 2002 when we were all still jamming to n*sync . We don’t want that.

winter winter chic

A go to winter dress. By “winter dress” I mean something long that hits the floor. It may sound too fancy but throw on a great shrunken denim jacket with it and a pair of wedge booties and you’ve instantly made it casual and you can keep warm and cozy. (Throw some tights on under there too, no one will know).
